Adoptable Horses
Our rescue has many horses currently available for adoption and looking for a forever home. We try our best to post all of our available horses to the website; however, we still have numerous horses at the farm which have not been listed yet. Continue checking this page periodically to see new horses added to our adoption page, or contact us at [email protected] to schedule a visit and see who all is available for leasing and adoption!
Please read the following about our currently available horses :
Many of our horses listed here for adoption head to camp for the summer months (June-August). Since summer camps are one of the core sources of income for the horses, adoption availability goes on hold during summer camp months. Please feel free to contact us about any horse that you see below, and we will provide you with information about them. We greatly appreciate your interest and understanding! We look forward to helping you find a horse that fits your's and your family's needs!
ace

Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$600
Saddlebred N/A Gelding 2000 Bay 15 Hands 3 Ace is a Saddlebred gelding who is currently looking for his new forever home! His passion is trail riding, but he can be a little forward moving out on the trail. In the arena he is an easy ride at a walk/trot/canter, but his rider must know the right cues to get an ambling gait from him. He can be ridden in English or Western and worked as a lesson horse at camp during the summer months. He does have a very thick coat of hair due to a possible, but mild, thyroid imbalance and is not currently on any medications. Ace loves to be groomed and bathed and is recommended for an advanced beginner/intermediate rider. |
Alice
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$300 (Negotiable to a Good Home)
Quarter Horse N/A Mare 1993 Black 14.2 Hands Alice is a 14.2 hand Quarter Horse who has a sweet temperament and a big 'ole hay belly! Alice came to us after receiving a call from animal control regarding an animal neglect case. We picked her up along with four other horses from the same farm, and all five of the horses were essentially skin and bone. We are very happy that Alice, along with the rest of her herd, have recovered and are ready to find forever homes. We don't know much about Alice's history, but we do know that she had had some experience in gaming. Since she has regained her physical health, we have been using her for riding lessons for younger kids and she has been wonderful. Aside from being a little difficult to catch sometimes, she has great ground and field manners. Alice would be a great companion horse or a beginner horse for kids who are just learning how to ride. We do not recommend her for adults due to her age. |
Anna
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$900
Tennessee Walking Horse N/A Mare 1998 Chestnut 15 6 Meet speedy Anna! If you’re looking for a horse to take out on the trail and cover some ground, Anna’s your girl. Anna is good for an advanced rider who can handle her forward tendencies. She has a wonderfully smooth gait plus this mare is versatile--she can lead, follow, and pony other horses. She'll cross bridges, ride on the road, and she's even gone the beach and waded into the water like she owned the place! She's a very hearty mare that has no soundness or health issues, has great feet and can go with or without shoes on all different terrain. She's even good for the farrier, vet, and dentist! Don't let her age fool you she's got more life and stamina than many of our younger horses. Anna enjoys the company of other horses on the trail, but she will also go out on her own. The more you work with her, the better she gets! Miss Anna will take you anywhere you want to go! |
Belle
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$1200
Quarter Horse N/A Mare 2004 Gray 14.2 Hands 4 Belle is a well-built QH who is ready to ride. She came to us as a result of a rescue seizure from her previous home. She has been registered with the AQHA, but as a result of her being seized from her former owner, Belle’s registration papers were never turned over. We understand that she has been professionally trained in roping but we have not explored her roping abilities. She is a wonderful mover that has great ground and field manners. She would be ideal for a beginner rider who is solely riding in the ring, or an intermediate rider who wants a working horse. Belle will need regular hoofcare to keep her feet shod and balanced, as she does wing inward with her front feet which places extra stress on her lower limbs. It is advised that she stay shod and will need a farrier that is comfortable working with her conformation. |

Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$1,000
Tennessee Walking Horse TWHBEA Gelding 2004 Red Roan 15 Hands 3 Buster is a Tennessee Walking Horse who is ready for his new forever home! He is a naturally gaited Walker who can ride at a Flat Foot Walk/Running Walk/Canter. Buster was given to Winterfrost after he severely injured his back right leg in the pasture. After much care from his previous owner, his leg healed but was left weakened by the trauma. Due to weakness in his leg, Buster’s riding activity does need to be limited to less than 4 hours a day. He is bossy in the field, but has good ground manners when being worked individually. Buster is suitable for anyone from a beginner to an advanced rider who wants a horse for light trail riding. |

Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
Morgan Cross N/A Mare 2005 Black and White Paint 14.0 Hands 3 Cassie is an all-around beginner safe horse. She is a short stout horse who can carry various sized people because of the way she is built. She is currently used in beginner kid riding lessons and public trail rides. She is one of our go to nervous rider trail horses. She walks, trots, with all riders and will canter with a more advance rider. She takes very good care of her riders, whether they are a child or adult. She is very patient with her riders and will always do her job. Cassie participates in our local fun shows along with spent past summers at the local Boy Scout camp, teaching the young boys the basics of horsemanship and trail riding. She has gone to many off-site events, such as parades, festivals, and overnight camping trips. Cassie was able to participate in the American Heart Association beach ride. She was fantastic, she went right in the water, and she didn’t mind all the other horses or noises. She just took care of the little girl riding and did her job. She isn’t fazed by much at all. Cassie does her best work as a lesson horse or a trail horse. She would be very well suited for a young child just starting out with horses or an adult who wants a sturdy trusting trail horse. She has no lameness issues. She will stand for the farrier to be shod or trimmed. She behaves for the vet and the dentist. |

She is a wonderful mover who could be trained for anything from working pleasure to jumping. With great ground and field manners, she is easy to fall in love with and will challenge her riders. She would be ideal for an advanced rider who is looking for an all-around horse. COST WILL INCREASE WITH HER TRAINING |

|

$800
Ponies of America (POA) Yes Gelding 1995 Leopard Appaloosa 12.3 Hands 4 Chip is an Leopard Appaloosa pony who is registered with the Ponies of America (POA) organization. He has been trained as a hunter/jumper and was shown prior to coming to us. We have found that he behaves better in the arena than he does on the trail, but his trail riding skills are improving daily as he adjusts to life at Winterfrost! Chip is an alpha in the field, but he has good ground manners and respects your space. He would be ideal for an intermediate rider who is looking for an experienced hunter/jumper horse for showing or simple pleasure. |
Coco Moe
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
Tennessee Walker N/A Mare 1997 Black 14.2 Hands 4 Coco Moe is a 1997 Tennessee Walking Horse mare. She is gaited and her running walk is WONDERFUL and VERY smooth! It’s like riding in a brand new Cadillac. Coco Moe would be considered a beginner safe ride; she rides well in the ring along with is bombproof out on the trail. Coco Moe is low horse in the pecking order in the field. She can have a pretty spunky attitude but she is very loyal to her person. Because of her past she can be a bit skeptical of you at first but once you show her your here to be her guide, this mare would follow you to the moon. Her ground manners could use a little work but only if you are a new person to her, once you are her person she’ll give you her heart. There is nothing this mare won’t do to make her person happy! Ride through water, cross bridges, go under bridges, lead, follow, pony, heck she’d try to and climb a rock wall for her person! Coco is a sweet, sassy little lady who expresses her opinion at times. She has experienced plenty of life while with us here at the rescue, spent many summers at Boy Scout camp, teaching young men the basics to horsemanship. She’s competed in several of our fun shows, local parades, and barn events. Because of her age we suggest only smaller rider for her. |

We have used Daisy for beginner lessons in our arena, and she has done well with inexperienced riders. She has also done well on trail rides, and has good ground and field manners. Daisy is an all-around family horse who would be suitable for any experience level, and can be used for anything from trail rides to hunter/jumper showing. Daisy does tend to have typical TB hooves and needs regular hoof care to proactively prevent any issues such as cracking, crushing heels, or weak hoof wall. |

Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Temperament: Description: |
$300 (Negotiable to a good home)

George has bilateral navicular in both of his front feet which limits his riding activity and requires him to have regular hoof care. It is recommended that his riders be kept under 130 lb, and that he not be used for rough terrain trail riding. He is an easy keeper and would be ideal for as a first horse for kids. |

|

Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |

He is trained at a walk/trot/canter, but is a fast mover who would need someone confident enough to keep him under rein. JD is a reliable trail horse who knows when it’s time to work. This pony does it all- he'll cross creeks, bridges, tarps, pony other horses, go out on his own or with a group. He is also intelligent, and with the proper training could be an all-around working or show horse. JD would be suitable for an intermediate or advanced rider who is looking for a good all-around prospect. |

From being up in the mountains, going to Christmas Parades or going out into the great Atlantic Ocean, she will go any where you ask her to go. She would be suitable for an advanced beginner to an advanced rider that is looking to enjoy a great trail mule. |

Mona
|
Adoption Fee: Breed(s):
Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
Tennessee Walker Mare 2003 Black and White 3 This striking, sweet girl came to us in January 2018 as a rescue from a kill pen. Sickly, underweight, and understandably nervous, she still showed great potential, and it only took a few months of rehabilitation before Mona started to come out of her shell and trust again. With trust in her trainer, she was started under saddle, and it became clear that she had been ridden and worked before. Given all of her progress, Mona’s trainer took her to the American Heart Association beach ride. She excelled, even in the new, potentially scary environment, confidently entering the water and helping lead the other horses into the ocean. She has even been used as one of our advanced lessons horses at Ride-A-Rescue. This mare really shines and has the potential to be your trusty mount out on any trail you want to try. Mona is ideal for an intermediate rider on the trail or in the ring. She is a sensitive mount who feeds off her rider; so, the quieter the rider, the quieter she will be. Mona is willing, and if her rider presents something with confidence, she will work hard to do whatever is asked. The more she works, the more confident she becomes. For an advanced rider, she will walk, trot, canter in the arena and though she is not naturally gaited, she may rack with the correct cues. Overall, Mona is easy-going, friendly, a bit shy, and an eager companion. She is low on the pecking order in the field. |
Mordecai
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Temperament: Description: |
$1200
Quarter Horse N/A Gelding 2003 Dun 3 Mordecai is a Quarter Horse with a beautiful coloration and sweet temperament, he loves attention and will give his all to please his rider. He is they type of horse that makes you want to be at the barn even on the days that are so cold you tend to question yourself why you own a horse :) Coming in at about 15.1 hands, he is a great size for many riders, and has a smooth gait. Mordecai does have two large scars on either side of his withers where he was bitten by a stallion as a foal. These two areas can be sensitive and cause irritation if a poorly fitted saddle is being used. If you prefer the western discipline then we recommend using a well fitted saddle with a quality saddle pad. Mordecai also sustained some damage to his flexor tendon on his front legs at some point in his life. He does wear wear shoes to give him easy break-over at the toe to help prevent any strain on his flexor tendons. He is sound and very comfortable with his shoes and would be well suited for most any disciplines. We do not suggest him for jumping but he is great out on the trails and in the arena. He will go out on his own or with a group and very little phases him. We have found that he can tend toward being buddy sour if left to field for a long period of time without being ridden but after a few rounds lunging he does great. He would be suitable for any level of rider if ridden regularly and would work great for a riding or lesson program! |

Quarter Horse N/A Gelding 5 Chesnut 3 Poncho is a chestnut Quarter Horse gelding that has more personality than we can even begin to try and explain! He is very sweet natured, loves attention, and will follow you around like a loyal puppy dog. He is an extraordinarily level headed boy that takes everything in stride, and is always willing to learn. We would consider him green broke because he still is not great at a canter but does willingly walk/trot. He has been to Myrtle Beach for the AHA beach ride, and on over night camping trips. He has potential to go in any direction you may want, and is ready to find his new home and career. He has great ground manners (occasionally struggles with personal space), and gets along with almost any horse he pastures with. COST WILL INCREASE WITH HIS TRAINING |

Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Height: Temperament: Description: |
$900
Paso Fino Cross N/A Mare 15 Chocolate Palomino 4 Sassy is a Passo Fino mare that is not naturally gaited but if the rider know the correct cues she does have the ability to gait. She can be a little shy in the field, but once she gets to know you she love to get attention. She can be ridden hunter/jumper or western pleasure, and has been used at Camp Carrysbrook and Boy Scout Camp as a lesson horse for kids. She is also used as a beginner lesson horse and trail horse at our farm. Sassy was a bit over weight and had some over growth issues with her feet when she came to us, but luckily she did not founder. With regular farrier visits and a monitored diet, she is now in great physical shape and does not have any feeding restrictions. Her is nervousness with new people can make her a little challenging to catch at times, so we suggest her for advanced beginners that have some horse experience. COST WILL INCREASE WITH HER TRAINING |
Thunderbolt
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Temperament: Description: |
$1200
Arabian/Warmblood Cross N/A Gelding 1996 Grey 2 Thunderbolt (Bolt) is an Arabian/Warmblood cross who is one of our “go to” horses for beginner trail rides and lessons. Bolt has a personality that makes him irresistibly adorable, which also makes him a great horse for the kids who come out to the barn! Bolt has a big appetite, and it's sometimes hard for him to resist the unending buffets he finds out on the trails. Even with his occasional snack breaks, he is a great trail horse! Bolt also has wonderful field manners, so it comes as no surprise that he is one of the first horses to greet you in the field as soon as he hears the chain on the gate. Bolt is suitable for any experience level and any discipline. |
Trix-

|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Temperament: Description: |
$
Thoroughbred (OTTB) Yes Gelding 2002 Bay 2 Trix is an off the track thoroughbred who is a favorite at the rescue. Coming in around 16.2 hands, he is easily one of our taller horses which makes him even more fun to ride for many of the volunteers! While he is an off the track thoroughbred, Trix has a very calm temperament both on the ground and in the saddle. We think that he may have been shown as a hunter/jumper shortly after his racing career, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Regardless of being shown or not, Trix loves to jump. His ears quickly perk up when he sees a hurdle near him that he wants to clear. He is also a solid trail horse who is not easily frightened outside of the barn or arena. While his easy temperament and all around versatility make him great for our trail rides, Trix would thrive as a hunter/jumper or potentially an eventer. He would be suitable for any experience level, but would benefit most with an intermediate or advanced rider who can continue to push him to reach his greatest potential. |
vera
|
Adoption Fee:
Breed(s): Registry: Gender: Age: Color: Temperament: Description: |
$700
Warmblood N/A Mare 19 Chesnut 4 Vera is a chestnut Warmblood cross mare that has middle to upper level dressage training along with Hunter/Jumper experience. She is a special type of mare that loves to work and strives to have a purpose in everything that she does. She is eager to please, but does need someone that will give her direction and a goal to meet. Because she is always looking for something to do, she can become buddy sour if she is left in the field to long and not worked. She is a mare that is always thinking and if left sitting too long she will find a a friend and focus her energy on "mothering" that friend, thus making her buddy sour if you take her away from her friend. The more she is worked that better she becomes at focusing her energy on her rider and striving to please in any manner she can. She is great on the trails and amazing in the arena, but we suggest her for an advanced intermediate/ advanced rider because she can be antsy on the ground. If you are looking to improve your riding skills or advance in your dressage training, this mare is for you! She knows her stuff and will give you her all to try and please her rider! |
