Our Volunteers
What would we do without our volunteers? Winterfrost's Ride-A-Rescue program is 100% volunteer based, and we could not function without our volunteers. We have a cadre of dedicated volunteers who help us feed and care for over 60 rescues. Our wonderful volunteers donate their time to feeding, exercising, grooming, and cleaning stalls as well as facility maintenance, fundraising, public education, special events, and trail rides. Most importantly, our volunteers provide daily love and attention for those horses awaiting adoption.
Prior to beginning your volunteer efforts at the farm, we ask that all individuals complete the Volunteer Application, which upon completion will be sent to our volunteer coordinator. Once your application has been received and reviewed by Reagan, our volunteer coordinator will reach out to set up an orientation. All volunteers, regardless of their experience level, must undergo our orientation program led by Reagan or one of the rescue's designated staff. Winterfrost Farm is always in need of dependable volunteers to help feed the horses in the evenings and/or mornings. Volunteers who help feed will work in teams of two or more. A typical feeding "shift" takes 1-2 hours to complete with two volunteers. You can sign up to help as often as you like, but we ask that you be honest with your availability and honor the commitment you make. |

What to Expect as a Volunteer
In Volunteering with us, you will be asked to do a variety of things, including but not limited to: grooming, feeding, exercising the horses, cleaning paddocks/stalls, moving hay, assisting veterinarians, trainers, and other volunteers.
You will learn about the cost and daily care associated with horse keeping. You can also expect to learn about equine diseases, lameness issues, and other medical considerations.

Why Volunteer?
Our volunteers work incredibly hard to keep the rescue going. Despite the hot hours of the summer, the below freezing temperatures of winter, the torrential downpours of spring, and everything else in between, our volunteers faithfully come to the farm even in the worst weather. Why? The simple answer is FAMILY.
The classic mantra, "There is no I in TEAM," couldn't ring more true at our rescue. Our volunteers work hard to keep the horses maintained and in good health. In doing so we have come to depend upon each other not just at the rescue but in our personal lives as well. This camaraderie has fostered a loving family culture at Ride-A-Rescue which has been the saving grace for horses and people alike.

Volunteer Requirements
- Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age
- Volunteers must commit to a minimum of six visits
- No horse experience is required
- An orientation is required for all first time volunteers, regardless of experience level
- All volunteers must start by helping with feeding the horses so you can learn the horses, their personalities, and what it takes for general care of a horse. The more time you commit to helping with general daily care and chores such as feeding, the more opportunities you will have to help with other actives such as events and trail rides.
