How Ride-A-Rescue Evaluates Adoption Fees
The process of trying to find the value of a horse can be a complex thing. Each horse is different in their own way and the market is ever changing. After great debate on how to fairly assess the value of a horse, Ride-A-Rescue has come up with a way to keep up with the ever changing horse market while still allowing us to value some of the key qualities of the horse we are researching.
-At the time of posting an available horse, we will do a search within a 250 mile radius of Christiansburg VA through the top local equine sale sites for a horse similar in description and key characteristics to the one being adopted. To make sure we are finding horses that are of similar age, experience, and temperament we will do an advanced search on the web page and enter criteria that matches the horses we are trying to find an adoption fee for. We will keep the same search criteria across all searches for that particular horse.
-Using the average price for the top 10 comparable horses, we will establish the baseline of this horse’s value. It is important to take any possible health issues or behavioral problems that rescues sometimes tend to have into consideration for each horse that is being assessed. If the horse we are assessing has known hoof issues or a physical defect, we will take a percentage off of the established baseline.
-These adoption fee are reassessed yearly or if the health of a horse changes drastically
Please always feel comfortable asking any questions to ensure you understand how a horse was assessed.

Didn't see what you're looking for, but still interested in adoption?

We continuously take in new horses that may  not have been listed to our website yet. Tell us what you are looking for so that we can send you information on horses that might fit your needs! Please provide us with as much information as possible by answering the questions below and submitting the form upon your completion. Once we receive your completed form and sift through our available horses, you will receive an email from our adoption coordinator detailing some of our horses that may be suitable for your needs.

Please answer this question honestly! The more we know about you the better we can help you along the process of possibly adopting a horse.

Please tell us all any and all breed horses that you are interested in so that we can make sure to fit you to the correct horse.

Please tell us what type of riding you plan to do with your new horse. Do you want to trail ride, do Western pleasure, English pleasure, Hunter/Jumper, Eventing, Dressage, lead line/ponying a rider along or use as a lesson horse. The more you tell us about your riding plans the better we can fit you to horses in our program.

Some of our horses are great horses but have a few more constant care need (i.e.: constant special farrier care, special feed, daily medications) that are a little above the average care needs of a horse.
